Overview
Clearn ("Clearn", "we", "our", or "us") provides tools that help users manage device storage, identify duplicate or similar photos and videos, compress videos, and organize their Gmail inbox.
This Privacy Policy explains what information Clearn may access, how that information is used, and the choices available to users.
By using Clearn, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
Information we access
Depending on the features you choose to use and the permissions you grant, Clearn may access the following categories of information.
Photos and videos
Clearn may access photos and videos that your device operating system permits the application to access.
This access is used to provide features including:
- Smart Scan
- Duplicate photo detection
- Duplicate video detection
- Similar photo detection
- Similar video detection
- Media review and cleanup
- Video compression
Clearn accesses only media that is available to the application through permissions granted by the user and the device operating system.
Gmail
If you choose to use the Clean Email feature, Clearn uses Google OAuth 2.0 to request access to the Gmail account you choose to connect.
Depending on the Clean Email functionality being used, Clearn may access Gmail information necessary to display, identify, organize, and manage messages, including information such as:
- Message identifiers
- Sender information
- Subject information
- Message dates
- Gmail labels
- Message size or related message information
- Other message metadata required to provide email cleanup features
- Message content only when required to provide a feature requested by the user
Clearn does not ask users to provide their Google account password. Google authentication is handled directly through Google's authorization services.
How we use photos and videos
Clearn uses access to photos and videos only to provide media management functionality requested by the user.
This may include:
- Scanning media available on the device
- Detecting duplicate photos or videos
- Detecting similar photos or videos
- Displaying groups of detected media for review
- Allowing users to select files to keep or delete
- Compressing videos selected by the user
- Calculating potential storage savings
Clearn does not automatically delete photos or videos based solely on scan results.
The user reviews the results and chooses which files to delete, keep, or compress.
Smart Scan
Smart Scan analyzes supported content available to Clearn in order to help users identify files that may be unnecessary, duplicated, similar, or suitable for optimization.
Smart Scan results are recommendations and organizational information.
Clearn does not automatically remove user content as a result of a Smart Scan.
Duplicate and similar media
Clearn may analyze technical or visual characteristics of photos and videos to identify files that appear to be duplicates or visually similar.
Detected items are presented to the user for review.
The final decision to keep or delete a file belongs to the user.
Video compression
When a user selects a video for compression, Clearn processes the selected video to create an optimized or reduced-size version according to the options chosen by the user.
Clearn does not compress videos without a user-initiated action.
How we use Gmail data
Google user data accessed through Gmail APIs is used only to provide Gmail-related functionality requested by the user.
This may include:
- Displaying emails within Clearn
- Identifying old emails
- Identifying large emails
- Organizing email information
- Helping users review unwanted messages
- Archiving messages selected by the user
- Moving messages selected by the user to Trash
- Performing other email management actions explicitly initiated by the user
Clearn does not use Gmail data for advertising purposes.
Clearn does not sell Google user data.
Clearn does not use Google user data for purposes unrelated to the user-facing Gmail management features provided by the application.
Google authorization and revocation
Clearn uses Google's OAuth 2.0 authorization system to connect to Gmail.
Before Clearn can access Gmail information, Google presents an authorization screen explaining the permissions requested by Clearn.
Access is provided only after the user explicitly grants permission.
Users may revoke Clearn's access to their Google account at any time through their Google Account security and permissions settings.
Once access has been revoked, Clearn will no longer be able to access Gmail data using that authorization.
Gmail cleanup actions
Clearn does not automatically delete Gmail messages without a user action.
When Clearn identifies emails that may be old, large, or unwanted, the results are presented to the user for review.
Actions such as archiving or moving messages to Trash are performed only after the user chooses to perform those actions.
Data processing and retention
Photos and videos used by the Smart Scan, duplicate detection, similar media detection, and video compression features are processed as required to provide those features.
Where processing is performed locally on the user's device, the original media remains under the user's control unless the user chooses to modify or delete it.
Google user data is processed only as necessary to provide the Clean Email functionality requested by the user.
Clearn does not retain Google user data longer than necessary to provide the relevant application functionality.
Data sharing
Clearn does not sell users' photos, videos, Gmail messages, or Google user data.
Clearn does not share Google user data with advertisers or data brokers.
Information is not transferred to third parties except where necessary to provide application functionality, comply with applicable law, protect users or the service, or where the user has explicitly requested or authorized such transfer.
Any third-party service used by Clearn must be handled in accordance with applicable privacy requirements.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information processed through Clearn.
Communication with Google APIs is performed using secure network connections.
Google account authorization is handled using Google's OAuth 2.0 authorization system.
However, no method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
User choices and deletion
Users remain in control of the photos and videos stored on their devices.
Users may delete local application data using their device settings or by uninstalling Clearn.
Users may revoke Clearn's Google account access through their Google Account settings.
If Clearn stores account-related information outside the user's device, users may request deletion by contacting us using the contact information provided below.
Google API Limited Use
Clearn's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Google user data obtained through Gmail APIs is used only to provide or improve user-facing features that are prominent and relevant to the functionality requested by the user.
Children’s privacy
Clearn is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable laws.
If we become aware that information has been collected in a manner that violates applicable children's privacy requirements, we will take appropriate steps to delete that information.
Policy updates
We may update this Privacy Policy when Clearn's functionality, data practices, or legal requirements change.
The updated policy will be published on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date.
